Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka is an American British sitarist and musician. She was among the youngest and first female to win the British House of Commons Shield she's received Nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first artist of Indian origin to perform live and to be a presenter for the award ceremony. Anoushka is a new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She is the daughter and student of Ravi Shankar. Born in London, she spent the early years of her life moving between London and New Delhi. At New Delhi, she made her first appearance at only 13 years of age. After that, she relocated into Encinitas CA, where she obtained the High School diploma with honors in the year 1999. Although she is still very young, Anouskha is a star in her performing and recording career. For a long time she has been performing regularly with her father. In 1998, she debuted Anourag as her first single album. In 2002, she debuted her Grammy nominated album Live At Carnegie Hall. She's performed in all important venues across the world. The career of Anoushka doesn't only comprise musical performances. Bapi The Love of My Life is a illustrated biographical work that she composed in 2002. It pays special tributes to her father who died in the year 2000. Ravi Shankar. Also, in a number of films. In 2003, she played the role in the film Dance Like a Man where she plays the role of a teenage Bharat Natyam performer. Anoushka Shakar's professional career will only continue to grow and develop. To honor her position as one of the top musicians in Asian Arts, she was presented with the House of Commons Shield by British parliament.
